All proceeds from Alegria Sewing Academy help support the production work at Esperanza Productions, covering essential overhead costs. This, in turn, allows us to provide employment and training opportunities to vulnerable individuals in our city, equipping them with valuable skills, confidence, and a path toward successful reintegration into society.

    Join our beginner-friendly adult sewing class, where you'll learn:

    By the end of the class, you'll have sewn your own sustainable, reusable grocery bag, with a printed design of your choice—all materials included!

    Bonus: Interested in industrial sewing? We also have industrial machines available for you to try.

  • Intro to Clothing Alterations

    Customize & Extend the Life of Your Clothes!

    Want to make your clothes last longer and fit just right? In this hands-on class, you’ll learn essential alteration techniques, including:
    ✅ Placing a temporary hem on kids' pants—easily let them out as they grow
    ✅ Measuring and hemming jeans and dresses for a polished look
    ✅ Taking in the sides of simple tunics for a better fit
    ✅ Hand-sewing buttons to replace missing or loose ones
    ✅ Choosing and applying the correct sewing stitches for each alteration

    This class is designed for those who already know the basics of sewing and can operate a sewing machine.

  • Kids Sewing Class

    A Fun Introduction to the World of Sewing!

    Let your child explore the exciting world of sewing! This beginner-friendly class introduces kids to the fundamentals of sewing in a fun and engaging way. The instructor will guide each child through the sewing process, ensuring they understand the technical aspects while having hands-on practice.

    ✅ Instructor-assisted sewing for beginners
    ✅ Kids who are comfortable with sewing can work independently and are welcome to bring their own sewing machines
    ✅Kids will also be introduced to the concept of repurposing and reusing materials as it pertains to sewing and making new goods
    ✅ Hands-on learning with fun projects like decorative pillows, aprons, lunch bags.
